Bonavista RCMP responds to fatal crash involving fire truck

A man is deceased after the fire truck he was operating departed the roadway on Route 239 near Trinity on June 8, 2022.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Bonavista RCMP received the report of the crash. The driver, who was a volunteer firefighter, was responding to a call for service when the truck rounded a curve in the road, departed the roadway and drove over an embankment. The lone occupant, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville where he later died.

A Collision Reconstructionist with RCMP Traffic Services attended the scene and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is engaged.

The investigation is continuing.
