Saskatchewan RCMP's Proactive Recruiting Team invited students in grades 10-12 with an interest in a future policing career to come learn more about what it might be like to be an RCMP officer. The three 'Spend a Day with an RCMP Recruiter' events were held in Regina, Saskatoon and Prince Albert in early July.

Participants travelled from all around the province – from Wawota in the south, Cumberland House in the north, west from Lloydminster, east from Gerald near the Manitoba Border – and from many other places in between!

What did these RCMP-hopefuls get to experience?

Our Fitness and Health Promotion Unit put the future recruits to the test by having them do obstacle courses and parts of the PARE. Did you know? The PARE (or Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation) is required to be completed by all cadets within their first two weeks at "Depot", the RCMP Training Academy.

The Emergency Response Team gave an in-depth presentation on the responsibilities of their unit and gave the students the hands-on experience of trying on parts of their kit (or uniform).

The Police Dog Services demonstration was really popular amongst the students - they had lots of questions for handler Cpl. Matatall and his Police Service Dog, Jaxx, and Cst. Maynard and his PSD-in-training.

Those who participated in the Regina session also took a trolley tour of Depot – getting to meet some of the cadets and seeing some scenario-based training in action. (We hope they could all see themselves there someday!)

The students got to hear first-hand from experts in a number of other specialized areas within the RCMP – such as our Major Crime Unit, General Investigative Section, Crime Reduction Team, Traffic Services, Federal and Serious Organized Crime, National Security, and more!

Did you know? The RCMP has over 150 different types of operational and administrative opportunities to choose from, giving our officers a lot of variety to ensure a career full of growth and adventure!

Our Proactive Recruiting Unit had a great time showing these potential future RCMP officers the ropes. We hope each one of them is compelled to apply to Depot when they're able!

A uniform with your name on it is waiting for you!
