A man is facing 22 charges in connection with a series of break and enter incidents between February and April, 2022 in Moncton and Upper Coverdale, N.B.
Between February 6 and 7, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP and Southeast District RCMP responded to numerous reports of break and enters, attempted break and enters, and thefts in the Moncton and Upper Coverdale areas. Two businesses were affected, as well as many homes. In several cases, residents reported being home during break and enter attempts.
Through extensive investigation, police were able to identify a common vehicle of interest, and person of interest. They were also able to identify several other properties that had also been broken into, and gathered additional information. On the afternoon of Feburary 7, police attempted to stop a vehicle near Riverview that matched the description of the vehicle of interest, but it fled the scene. The same afternoon, police located the vehicle of interest in Moncton. During the search of the vehicle, police located property and personal identification linked to the previous thefts.
Based on the information gathered, police were able to issue a warrant of arrest for a man in connection with the break, enters and thefts. On April 8, the Codiac Regional RCMP arrested a 34-year-old man at the scene of a break and enter in progress.
Denis Marc Savoie, from Saint-Édouard-de-Kent, appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand on April 9 and was remanded into custody.
On May 27, Denis Marc Savoie returned to court and was charged with 22 offences:
- Break and enter (eight counts)
- Attempted break and enter at a private residence (two counts)
- Attempted break and enter at a commercial property
- Attempted break and enter on a private property
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Wearing a disguise while committing an offence (two counts)
- Motor vehicle theft
- Theft under $5,000 (three counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Unauthorized possession of identity documents related to another person
- Flight from police
Denis Marc Savoie was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on June 3 to enter a plea.
