Wetaskiwin RCMP traffic stop leads to seizing weapons and drugs, two people charged

On Aug. 26, 2021, at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Wetaskiwin RCMP officer was conducting patrols in an industrial area when a suspicious vehicle was observed. The licence plate did not match the vehicle, so the officer conducted a traffic stop. During the subsequent investigation, the driver and passenger were arrested. During a search of the vehicle, the officer located several weapons as well as drugs and break-in tools.

A 36-year-old male of Wetaskiwin, Alta. and a 35-year-old female of Breton, Alta. have been charged with several offences, including:

  • Possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine);
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x3);
  • Possession of break-in instruments;
  • Possession of prohibited weapon while unauthorized (x2).

After a judicial interim release hearing, the 36-year-old male was released with conditions to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Sept. 9, 2021. The 35-year-old female was remanded to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial Court on Aug. 27, 2021.
