On July 4, 2021, at approximately 7:50 am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of an unconscious male behind a building on Manitoba Avenue in Selkirk, Manitoba. When police arrived on scene, the 27-year-old male had shallow breathing, but was not responsive. Officers saw drug paraphernalia in the vicinity and then the male stopped breathing. Naloxone was immediately administered by the officers.
EMS personnel arrived on scene as the male began breathing again and regained consciousness. EMS provided further medical care. The male was transported to local hospital.
RCMP officers are trained in providing emergency first aid and all officers carry a dose of naloxone to administer in case of an overdose.
