Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador

News release

Search efforts are underway for two Gander men who were hunting for sea birds in the Lawrence Harbour area. Grand Falls-Windsor RCMP received a report last evening at approximately 7:40 p.m. that the two were expected to return home earlier in the day but had not arrived.

The men are believed to have departed Lawrence Harbour in a 14-foot aluminum boat around noon on November 13. A cabin the men were believed to be staying at has been checked and showed signs that the men were there; however, there have been no reported sightings of the pair since November 13.

The Canadian Coast Guard's Maritime Rescue Sub-centre is currently coordinating the search efforts, which have involved multiple vessels (CCGS Conception Bay, CCGS Alfred Needler, Coast Guard Auxiliary and other local volunteer vessels), a CAF CH-149 Cormorant Helicopter, a C-130 Hercules Aircraft, and Exploits Ground Search and Rescue.

RCMP NL will continue to engage with the Canadian Coast Guard on the search efforts.
