RCMP Traffic Services East lays dangerous driving charge against driver travelling 232 km/h

RCMP Traffic Services East used hand-held lidar and captured a Dodge Challenger travelling 232 km/h on the TCH near Middle Gull Pond on July 10, 2021.

Twenty-four-year-old Andrew Bennett of Pasadena has been charged with a criminal charge of dangerous driving after being stopped by RCMP Traffic Services East on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH) at Middle Gull Pond on July 10, 2021.

On Saturday afternoon, officers were conducting speed enforcement using hand-held laser equipment and obtained the speed of a Dodge Challenger, that was operated by Bennett, travelling east on the TCH at a rate of 232 km/h.

Bennett is charged under the Highway Traffic Act with excessive speeding and imprudent driving and under the Criminal Code of Canada with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. His driver's license was suspended and his vehicle was seized and impounded. Bennett will appear in St. John's Provincial Court on October 22, 2021.

RCMP NL is committed to maintaining public safety on roadways throughout the province and warns motorists that this type of driving behaviour will not be tolerated and will be enforced by police with the most serious charges that apply.
