Police officers from the Hampton detachment rescued a 57-year-old woman when she became lost in the woods in Kingston, N.B.
On February 23, 2021, shortly after 7 p.m., police responded to a report of an individual in mental distress who was missing from a residence on Route 850. The woman had left her home around 3 p.m., and had not returned.
When police arrived on scene, they noticed foot tracks going into the woods. Due to deep snow, the responding officers, Cst. Jonathan Murphy and Cst. John Thompson, borrowed snowshoes from a neighbour. They tracked the woman's footprints in the snow for over three kilometres in the dark. The officers found the 57-year-old woman around 10:30 p.m., stuck in mud after falling near a creek. Police officers helped the woman walk to a home nearby and she was transported to hospital where she was later released.
"Given the cold weather and time of day, finding the woman quickly was crucial," says Cpl. Mark Ward with the Hampton RCMP. "Thanks to the quick actions taken by our members and the neighbour's offer to lend them snowshoes, we were able to locate the woman and rescue her safely."
