Rankin Inlet RCMP have laid charges against a man for bootlegging.

On March 1, 2021, Rankin Inlet RCMP, in collaboration with the Nunavut RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit, executed a search warrant and seized eighteen, 1114 ml (40oz), bottles of liquor.

48-year-old Travis Rusk of Rankin Inlet, is facing the following charges:

  • Unlawful Sale / Possession of Liquor, S.84 of the Liquor Act
  • Failure to Comply with Undertaking, S.145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code

Preventing the sale of illegal drugs and alcohol is a top priority of the RCMP, in an effort to reduce crime in Nunavut communities. In 2020 alcohol was a contributing factor in 57% of violent crimes in Rankin Inlet.
