The Queens District RCMP has arrested two impaired drivers in less than 48 hours while patrolling the communities of Cornwall and Charlottetown, PEI.
On October 20, 2021, at approximately 6 p.m., police stopped a vehicle for speeding on Cornwall Road in Cornwall. A 33-year-old driver from the community showed signs of impairment and failed a roadside screening test. The man was arrested and brought to the Queens District RCMP detachment for further testing, which confirmed his alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
The following evening, at approximately 9 p.m., the Queens District RCMP stopped a vehicle driving erratically on North River Road in Charlottetown. The 52-year-old driver from Hampshire showed signs of impairment and was asked to provide a breath sample. The woman refused and was arrested.
Both individuals were later released and were issued a 90-day driver's license suspension along with having their vehicles towed at their expense. They will appear in Charlottetown Provincial Court at a later date.
When you drive impaired, you are putting yourself as well as those around you at risk. The Queens District RCMP would like to remind drivers that operating a vehicle while impaired can carry severe consequences. You could lose your driver's license, receive a hefty fine and even face significant jail time. In addition, your vehicle will be towed and impounded for a minimum of 30 days at your expense.
