Man threatens to burn down a cabin in Howley, investigation continuing

An Irishtown man was arrested by Deer Lake RCMP following an incident that occurred at a cabin in Howley last night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Deer Lake RCMP received a report that a man had assaulted an individual and then threatened to burn down a cabin. Officers arrived on scene and spoke to two occupants of the cabin by phone, who were directed to leave the property. The pair went to a nearby safe location. The man was alone inside the cabin with access to firearms and ammunition. Officers contained the area for public safety.

RCMP from Deer Lake Detachment, along with two Police Dog Services Teams, officers with the Serious Crime Unit and the Emergency Response Team, attended the scene. The man was taken into custody without incident. Three unsecured firearms were located and seized.

The man remains in custody at this time and the investigation is continuing.
