Leduc RCMP investigating incident at local school – Homicide investigation

The 17-year-old female victim from this morning's assault at the school has died in the hospital as a result of her injuries.

The RCMP are now investigating a homicide, and the Major Crimes Unit has taken carriage of the investigation. The 19-year-old male suspect is in police custody. Information and evidence is being gathered.

Given the tragic nature of this situation, the RCMP hopes that privacy will be afforded the students at the school.

**Inspector Dale Kendall will be conducting a brief media availability outside of Leduc RCMP Detachment at 3:30 p.m. today. Please gather on the west side of the building.

Leduc RCMP investigating incident at local school

The RCMP are on scene at Christ the King School in Leduc following a 911 call this morning at 9:58 about a violent assault incident at the school. One student was transported via STARS air ambulance to the hospital, and a male suspect believed to be responsible left the school.

The school was in a lockdown situation, but the lockdown has since been lifted.

At 12:20 p.m., the RCMP arrested the male suspect. The RCMP are not looking for any other suspects and can confirm that there is no further public safety concern.

The Leduc RCMP General Investigation Section leads the investigation with the support of the Leduc Police Dog Services, Forensic Identification Section, Air Services and the Major Crimes Unit.

This investigation is in its preliminary stages, and further information is not available for the media. The RCMP requires time to gather information and assess the investigation before making any further statements.
