A 15-year-old youth and parent have been ticketed following a collision between two all-terrain vehicles (ATV) that happened on September 11, 2021, on a trail near Gander.
At approximately 6:15 p.m., Gander RCMP received a report of a head-on collision between two side-by-side ATVs. Officers attended the scene and found that an ATV, being operated by a youth, was traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control and collided with another ATV. Two women, who were traveling together on the ATV that was struck, were injured and required medical attention. Both were transported to the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Two youth, who occupied the other ATV, were located at the scene and were uninjured.
The 15-year-old youth, who was operating the ATV, was ticketed for operating an ATV without due care and attention and a parent of the youth was ticketed for allowing a person under the age of 16 years to operate an ATV.
RCMP NL reminds parents of the legislation under the Motorized Snow Vehicles and All-Terrain Vehicles Act. A person under the age of 16 is not permitted to operate an adult sized (greater than 90 ccs) ATV.
