Alberta RCMP Major Crimes investigate homicide in Edson

On Nov. 4, 2021, at 5:27 p.m., Edson RCMP responded to a report of a shooting at a business on 50 Street in Edson, Alta.

An unknown male suspect entered a business with a firearm and attempted to rob the business. During the interaction, the suspect discharged the firearm and injured an employee.

The suspect who was unsuccessful in the robbery attempt, fled the business leaving the firearm behind and departed in a vehicle. The suspect vehicle was located a short distance away unoccupied.

RCMP Police Dog Services and the Forensic Identification Section were called in to assist.

An adult male sustained critical injuries as a result of the firearm being discharged. The male was taken to hospital by EMS; however, he died as a result of his injuries.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has taken over carriage of the investigation with the assistance of Edson RCMP.

An autopsy has been ordered by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and will be completed next week.

The investigation is ongoing.
