Yellowknife RCMP is providing an update on the investigation into missing 22-year-old Breanna Menacho.
Breanna Menacho was reported missing on Wednesday, May 6th, 2020. She last seen on Tuesday, May 5th, 2020, in the area of Butler Road.
Yellowknife RCMP started a missing person's investigation and engaged Yellowknife RCMP General Investigation Section and NT RCMP Police Dog Services. A ground and aerial searches were performed in areas where she was last seen, with assistance from the NWT Civil Air Search and Rescue Association.
On Wednesday, May 6th, at approximately 6:50 pm, while pursuing the missing person's investigation, Yellowknife RCMP were alerted to a residence in a multiple dwelling residential area, off Forrest Drive. On site, they found a deceased person. Evidence led to consider the death suspicious.
An investigation was launched, led by NT RCMP Major Crime Unit in conjunction with the NWT Chief Coroner Office, with assistance from Yellowknife RCMP General Investigation Section and the NT RCMP Forensic Identification Services. The scene was secured immediately to protect evidence.
A positive identification of the victim was ordered. NT RCMP Major Crime Unit and the NWT Chief Coroner Office can confirm the identity of the deceased as 22-year-old Breanna Menacho, from Yellowknife.
The NT RCMP Major Crime Unit later arrested, and charged a suspect.
27-year-old man from Yellowknife, Devon Larabie, has been charged with murder, sec. 235 CC, in connection with the death of Breanna Menacho.
Devon Larabie has been remanded and is scheduled to appear before the court on Tuesday, May 12.
