RCMP warn of fraudulent Kijiji ads

October 8, 2020
Prince, Queens and Kings Counties, Prince Edward Island

News release

East Prince RCMP are asking the public to beware of fraudulent Kijiji ads due to a number of recent reports of individuals claiming to sell animals online which require a deposit, which may be lost by the buyer, with no animal actually being sold.

RCMP want the public to be aware that there are many different types of scams on the phone and online that require scrutiny of the buyer to avoid losing money. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre provides a good overview of the many forms of fraud circulating at any given time and can be an excellent resource to check prior to any transaction https://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm

If you suspect a scam, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre and if you have been a victim of a crime, contact your police office of your jurisdiction to report the incident. Never provide personal information to unknown people or web sites and be wary of anyone asking for money without knowing the source.
