An 18-year-old man and a youth are facing charges under the Federal Cannabis Act and a 27-year-old man is facing charges of impaired driving and possession of a prohibited weapon following recent traffic stops by Labrador RCMP Traffic Services.
On May 22, 2020, Labrador RCMP Traffic Services conducted a traffic stop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Police smelled an odor of cannabis coming from within the vehicle and observed baggies of cannabis inside the vehicle. The driver and passenger were arrested and will each face a charge of possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing/selling under the Federal Cannabis Act. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of 350 grams of cannabis, baggies, a set of scales, a quantity of cash and other drug paraphernalia. Both individuals were released and are scheduled to appear in court in September, 2020.
On May 29, 2020, RCMP Traffic Services was on patrol in Sheshatshiu and pulled over an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) which was driving erratically. The driver, who was driving with a suspended license, was arrested for impaired driving by alcohol. He was found in possession of brass knuckles, a prohibited weapon. He was transported to the Detachment and provided breath samples more than three times the legal limit. Police issued an additional suspension of his driver's license and the ATV was seized for 30 days. The man now faces charges for impaired driving and possession of a prohibited weapon. He was released from custody and is set to appear in court on September 8, 2020.
