On July 4, 2020, at approximately 7:25 pm, Dauphin RCMP responded to a report of a robbery in progress at the Gilbert Plains Hotel.
Officers were advised that a female suspect, who was armed with a knife, had entered the bar and approached a member of the staff and demanded cash from the till. The staff member refused to provide any cash to her and exited the bar and requested help from several bystanders outside. The bystanders entered the bar and observed the suspect fleeing out the back door to which they followed. The bystanders were then able to direct officers to the suspects location.
The suspect was located nearby and was observed to still be in possession of the knife to which she refused commands to drop. The officers then deployed a conducted energy weapon which successfully allowed them to take the suspect into custody.
The suspect was taken to hospital with minor injuries and later released back into police custody.
RCMP have charged 41-year-old Jeananne Jubenville, of Dauphin, with Robbery, Disguised with Intent and Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. She was later released on conditions to attend court scheduled for September 8, 2020, in Dauphin.
Dauphin RCMP continue to investigate.
