Cannabis products seized from unlicensed storefront

December 18, 2020
Eskasoni, Nova Scotia

News release

On December 17, police searched an unlicensed cannabis storefront on Crane Cove Rd. in Eskasoni.

On October 9, 2020, police received a report that an unlicensed cannabis storefront was going to be opening on Crane Cove Rd. in Eskasoni.

Over the course of the investigation, Eskasoni RCMP members attended the property on Crane Cove Rd. on multiple occasions and engaged in a dialogue with the owners of the storefront in an effort to resolve the matter.

On December 17, as a result of the unlicensed cannabis storefront continuing to operate on the Eskasoni First Nation and not voluntarily ceasing operations, police attended the property and conducted a search of the unlicensed cannabis storefront under the provincial Cannabis Control Act. A significant quantity of cannabis, including cannabis edibles, was seized. A charge has been laid under the Cannabis Control Act and the investigation is ongoing.

Nova Scotia RCMP is continuing to work with the Chief and Council of Eskasoni First Nation and employ the measured approach, which includes consultation with the stakeholders, to address the unlicensed sale of cannabis in the community. Increasing complaints and concerns about the products being sold and the potential sale to youth prompted the police action at the storefront. Our goal is to have the unlicensed storefront cease operations.
