Many Moncton area RCMP employees have been quietly raising funds to strengthen their community over the last few years. They recently made a generous donation to the Greater Moncton Women's Progress Club, which works to empower women and develop resiliency among children in the community. Each year, the Club reaches out to all schools in the Greater Moncton area to identify families in need so that help may be provided, both at Christmas and throughout the year.

A few years ago, RCMP employees from the Riverview detachment, Southeast District Headquarters, Records Management, Dieppe Court, Major Crime South, Internet Child Exploitation, Strategic Communications, and Major Case Management units, began raising funds for this valuable cause. The efforts have grown over the years and, this year, several individual employees even adopted families to support in addition to the group fundraising.

This relatively small group of employees (less than 30) contributed a total of $1,895, collected through various initiatives lead by Kathy Gautreau, a trainer in the Records Management unit. Additionally, staff from RCMP Federal Operations East contributed $300 to the Club.

"The donations from these RCMP employees contributed greatly to our club being able to support 40 deserving families in our community, including 107 children," said Jacinthe Lemire, vice-president of the Greater Moncton Women's Progress Club and also an RCMP employee. "The spirit of giving and sharing is alive and well in our organization and we are so grateful for the generosity of those who donated items and money in support of our club's goal of strengthening our community. I am very blessed to be part of this wonderful organization of women and the RCMP family."
