Week 18: Shifting from days to nights

Second detachments

RCMP officers pull over a silver car at a campground.

Cadets are on the schedule for extended scenarios at Buffalo Detachment. Detachment scenarios are scheduled during the evening allowing a natural introduction to shift work. At this point in training, cadets are challenged with more complex investigations.

The focus this week is partner work. Cadets take turns leading investigations and being back up. Facilitators evaluate the cadets with more advanced problem solving skills in mind.

Grappling and escape techniques

In Police Defensive Tactics, cadets continue learning techniques to use in the field. These include different ground fighting styles and types of martial arts. Cadets also become acquainted with grappling. This skill helps in close range situations for self defence.

Cadets learn the basics of grappling and practise it with their troopmates. They will also learn how to escape and subdue someone with the least force necessary.

Depot spotlight
Transport Unit

Cadets line up to get on the Depot bus.

The Transport Unit is essential to making sure cadets get where they need to go, both at Depot and in the city of Regina.

In order to maintain the complex training schedule for the Academy, vehicle transport is highly necessary. As Depot is large and some buildings are far apart, cadets may need to be transported by bus. In an average week, 1,500 cadets will get on and off the Transport buses.

Transport also looks after getting cadets to medical appointments that are off base. They also deliver parcels and mail to different units on base.
