Wood Buffalo RCMP request assistance to identify suspect in fraud

Wood Buffalo RCMP are requesting the public's assistance in identifying a suspect in an identity fraud. On Jan. 1, 2024, RCMP were contacted by a victim, residing in another province, who had been a victim of identity theft. On Dec. 30, 2023, an unknown suspect attended the Bell Store in the Peter Pond mall in Fort McMurray. The suspect purchased an Apple iPhone 15, valued at $1,448, using the victim's identity. The suspect produced what appeared to be valid identification before making the fraudulent purchase in the victim's name. Police have obtained surveillance photos of the suspect.

The suspect is described as:

  • Male
  • Short grey and white hair, possibly balding
  • Grey and white facial hair
  • Wearing a dark coloured suit
  • Brown shoes
  • Blue and white shirt
  • Black framed glasses
  • Wearing a ring on his left pinky finger

Victims of identity fraud should place flags on all their accounts and report the incident to both credit bureaus: Equifax and TransUnion.
