On May 10, 2024, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP conducted a traffic stop in the area of Thickwood Boulevard. A search of the vehicle was conducted and as a result, over an ounce of suspected fentanyl was located and seized along with other drug paraphernalia. Two vehicle occupants were subsequently arrested without incident.
A 38-year-old individual, a resident of Fort McMurray, is facing a number of charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Four counts Fail to comply with conditions of a release order
The 38-year-old individual was held for a judicial interim hearing. He was remanded into custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice – Fort McMurray on May 27, 2024.
A 37-year-old individual, a resident of Fort McMurray, was also arrested and is facing charges including:
- Possession of a controlled substance
The 37-year-old individual, who cannot be named until an Information is sworn, was released from police custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice on June 25, 2024.
On the same day at approximately 2:45 p.m., in an unrelated police investigation, the Wood Buffalo RCMP Drug Section with the assistance of the Crime Reduction Team, executed a search warrant in the Timberlea area of Fort McMurray after conducting a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act investigation. As a result of the search warrant, police located and seized Canadian currency, over an ounce of suspected cocaine, a firearm and drug paraphernalia.
A 22-year-old individual, a resident of Fort McMurray, was arrested without incident and is facing charges including:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of property obtained by crime
The 22-year-old individual, who cannot be named until an Information is sworn, was released from police custody and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice - Fort McMurray on June 11, 2024.
