Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit charge two with drug offences

Wetaskiwin RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), along with Alberta Sheriffs Safer Community and Neighbourhoods Team (SCAN), began a drug trafficking investigation at a residence in the 4700 block of 52 Avenue in Wetaskiwin after several complaints were received from citizens of the community.

As a result of the investigation, Wetaskiwin CRU, along with the Alberta RCMP Community Response Team, executed a search warrant at the residence on Oct. 18, 2024. During the search, RCMP located the following:

• 58 grams of suspected fentanyl

• 25.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine

• Imitation firearms

• Weapons – Crossbow, hatchet

• Ammunition

• Other items consistent with drug trafficking

A 46-year-old individual, a resident of Wetaskiwin, has been charged with:

• Possession for the purpose of trafficking

• Fail to comply with release order

• Possess weapon for dangerous purpose

After a judicial interim release hearing, the 46-year-old individual was remanded into custody. He will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Oct. 22, 2024.

A 38-year-old individual, a resident of Millet, Alta., has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (x2).

The 38-year-old individual was released from custody and will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin on Oct. 31, 2024.

Wetaskiwin RCMP, along with SCAN, encourage citizens of the community to report suspicious behaviours in their communities.
