A 44-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, both from Moncton, N.B., have been arrested and stolen property has been recovered in the community.
In January 2024, members of the Codiac Regional RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) and the New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Unit (NBIEU) began an investigation into the possession of stolen property in the Greater Moncton Area.
On February 1, 2024, police conducted a traffic stop in Moncton where a 44-year-old male and a 34-year-old female were arrested for possession of stolen property obtained by crime worth over $5000. Subsequent to that arrest, a search warrant was executed at a residence on Marsh Street in Moncton and suspected stolen property was also seized. The items found included high-end bicycles and stolen power tools.
The two individuals were arrested and later released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Moncton Provincial Court on May 28, 2024.
The RCMP would like to encourage the public to record the serial numbers of tools, bicycles and other valuable items as way to be able to identify their possessions if they are stolen. Adding identifying marks or labels to property, or taking photos can also be helpful.
'In this particular case, owners of the recovered stolen property had been able to provide serial numbers so we were able to quickly identify them during the search in order to return them to their rightful owners. It is important to take the time to document key information because that is valuable information we need when investigating thefts,' Inspector Chantal Farrah with the Codiac RCMP explained.
This investigation was the result of a joint effort between the Codiac Regional RCMP's Crime Reduction Unit and the New Brunswick Integrated Enforcement Unit (IEU). The New Brunswick IEU is made up of members from the New Brunswick RCMP, as well as municipal police and Justice and Public Safety officers in the province. These efforts aim to improve the coordinated response to the growing concerns of drugs, firearms, and organized crime within New Brunswick.
The Codiac Regional RCMP is committed to proactive, intelligence-led policing aimed at reducing property crime in the Greater Moncton Area. The public plays an important role in helping to reduce, prevent, and solve property crime. Anyone with information about, or who suspects, suspicious activity in their neighbourhood is asked to contact their local police.
