Sundre RCMP and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit - Charges laid in Mountain View County homicide

Charges have been laid in relation to the death of a Sundre resident that occurred on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024.

On Jan. 25, 2024, Sundre RCMP responded to a report of a male that had been shot at a residence northeast of Sundre in Mountain View County. The victim, now identified as 36-year-old Justin Goodhand, was pronounced deceased at hospital a short time later. An autopsy was completed on Jan. 26, 2024, which determined that the manner of death was homicide.

Alberta RCMP Major Crimes unit have charged a 36-year-old individual, a resident of Sundre, with one count of second-degree murder in the death of Justin Goodhand. The 36-year-old individual has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Didsbury Provincial Court on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024. No other suspects are being sought in this investigation.

As this matter is now before the courts, additional details of the investigation will not be provided.

Sundre RCMP and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes investigate suspicious death

Sundre RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating a death in Mountain View County.

At Approximately 12:17 p.m. on Jan. 25, 2024, Sundre RCMP were dispatched to a report of a man that had been shot northwest of Sundre, Alta. Officers attended and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Life saving efforts were attempted at the scene, and the male was transported to local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit has assumed carriage of the investigation and is treating the death as suspicious.

An autopsy is scheduled to take place at the Calgary Medical Examiners office on Jan. 26, 2024. An update will be provided when results of the autopsy are known.
