Strathmore RCMP and Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigate fatal shooting

Strathmore RCMP and the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit are investigating after shots were fired resulting in the death of a man at the Mountain View Campground near Conrich, Alta.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2024, Strathmore RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting that gunshots had been fired at the Mountain View Campground on Range Road 284 and Highway 1. Investigators arrived and found an adult male in the campground, suffering from gunshot wounds. EMS provided care; however, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is now leading the investigation, and an autopsy has been scheduled for Monday Jan. 29, 2024, at the Calgary Medical Examiners Office. The deceased has been identified as a 26-year-old male resident of Calgary. The name of the deceased as well as cause of death are anticipated to be available once the autopsy results are known.
