A specialized electric bicycle has been returned to its rightful owner after being reported stolen in Moncton, N.B.
On August 14, 2024, the Codiac Regional RCMP received a report of a theft at a residence in Moncton. A specialized electrical bicycle of significant value was reported stolen.
On August 20, the Codiac Regional RCMP were conducting proactive patrols in the city and were able to identify a person and an address of interest. Police attended the address of interest, located and recovered the bicycle.
Furthermore, the bicycle was positively identified with ease due to the fact that the owner registered their bike with Garage 529, an organization that helps reduce bike theft.
"We would like to thank the public for the initial tip that was provided to police", said Sgt. Sylvette Hébert of the Codiac Regional RCMP. "We understand that property crime and theft can be frustrating, so we advise marking or engraving your valuables for easy identification purposes, keeping a record of serial numbers, and promptly reporting any thefts. This will help deter potential thieves and assist in the recovery of stolen items.".
The Codiac Regional RCMP's Crime Reduction and Integrated Enforcement Units also assisted in the investigation.
