St. Paul RCMP respond to fatal residential fire

On Jan. 31, 2024, at approximately 12:05 p.m., St. Paul RCMP were conducting proactive patrols when they observed flames coming from inside a residence on Highway 36 in Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Alta.

RCMP attended, as well as the Saddle Lake Fire Services and EMS. Upon arrival, the residence was found fully engulfed and deemed unfit for entry.

Once the fire was extinguished, human remains were discovered within the residence.

St. Paul RCMP are in its early stages of the investigation and are being assisted by the Alberta Medical Examiners Office and the RCMP Forensic Identification Unit. After preliminary investigation, the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
