Southern Alberta RCMP Crime Reduction Unit execute search warrant and locate stolen property

On April 22, 2024, members of the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) recovered a stolen truck, trailer and skid steer and arrested one male after leaving a rural property in Mountain View County (see below media release).

As a result of the above arrest, the property was held and officers of SAD CRU, in partnership with Didsbury RCMP, Airdrie RCMP, and RCMP Auto Theft Unit, executed a search warrant on April 23, 2024.

As a result of the search warrant, the following was seized:

  • Six stolen trucks, including a Blazer, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Silverado, and Dodge Ram
  • Four utility trailers
  • A Polaris ATV
  • A Raptor Keystone RV
  • Two flat deck trailers
  • Two shotguns
  • A bolt action rifle
  • Two .22 calibre rifles
  • Thousands of rounds of ammunition.
  • Six industrial heaters
  • A red Norco Sight vlt 12 speed Mountain Bike (serial number removed and RCMP are still trying to locate owners)

A 44-year-old individual, a resident of Mountain View County, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Fail to Comply with a Release Order
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

After a judicial interim release hearing, the individual was remanded for Alberta Court of Justice on April 25, 2024, in Airdrie, Alta.

In addition to the stolen property, RCMP discovered numerous animals on the property in distress and have partnered with the Alberta SPCA. Fifty-six dogs of various breeds were seized from the property, as well as 10 sheep, nine llamas, four chickens, and three geese. The investigation into the welfare of the animals is being conducted by the Alberta SPCA, so please contact them with questions about this portion of the investigation.

Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit recover Stolen Truck Trailer and Skid Steer

On April 22, 2024, officers with the RCMP Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU) were investigating property crime in the Mountain View County when they observed a white GMC Sierra. The truck had an obstructed licence plate and was towing a flat deck trailer and a skid steer. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle.

As a result of this traffic stop, it was determined that the GMC Sierra had been stolen out of Crossfield, the black tilt deck trailer had been stolen out of Calgary, and the Caterpillar skid steer had been stolen from Okotoks.

A 43-year-old individual, a resident of Foothills County, Alta., was arrested and charged with three counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.

After a judicial interim release hearing, Whaling was released for Alberta Court of Justice on May 23, 2024, in Airdrie.
