On May 2, 2024, Southern Alberta District RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in partnership with High River RCMP, initiated an investigation into stolen property. GPS technology led officers to a rural location in Foothills County, Alta., where a stolen generator was believed to be. A search warrant was obtained and executed, and officers located the stolen generator, a stolen enclosed utility trailer, and over a thousand pounds of copper wire that was actively being stripped for recycling purpose.
As a result, two suspects were arrested and have been charged.
A 53-year-old individual, a resident of Foothills County, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 and theft over $5000. The individual was released from custody and will appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks, Alta., on July 15, 2024.
A 43-year-old individual, a resident of Foothills County, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, and breaching a court order. The individual was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released for Alberta Court of Justice in Okotoks on June 7, 2024.
The investigation continues. RCMP are recommending to property owners to put trackers on their stored property. This will greatly assist RCMP if there was a need to investigate a theft.
