On July 7, 2024, at approximately 1:40 p m, Selkirk RCMP received a report of several incidents of criminal harassment with the most recent having just occurred in the Grand Beach Provincial Park.
Officers were advised that a 31-year-old male, from Grand Marais, had approached a female employee in the park and attempted to strike up a conversation with her and provided information about her that the suspect should not have known. Several other incidents of a similar nature were reported to have occurred within a short period of time.
The investigation uncovered that the suspect was employed as a Community Safety Officer (CSO) within a nearby community.
On July 8, 2024, officers attended to the residence of the 31-year-old male suspect and placed him under arrest for Criminal Harassment. Upon his arrest, officers located and seized uniform pants, law enforcement shirts, duty belt, handcuffs, baton and OC spray.
The 31-year-old male was later released from police custody on an Undertaking for court with numerous conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Selkirk Provincial court on November 29, 2024.
On July 10, 2024, Selkirk RCMP received further information that the 31-year-old male may be in possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number. A Warrant of Arrest was issued and on July 11, Matthew Madill, 31, turned himself in at the Winnipeg Police Service headquarters where he was later released for court date scheduled for August 14, 2024, in Winnipeg.
Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
