On Dec. 14, 2023, the Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) arrested and charged two individuals following a stolen property investigation.
Red Deer RCMP CRT observed a suspicious vehicle attend two separate businesses within Red Deer and steal wheels off vehicles at these businesses. RCMP were able to stop and arrest the two individuals from the suspicious car. During the arrest, one of the suspects threw a backpack, which police recovered. The backpack contained multiple cell phones, cash, and drugs.
Further investigation revealed the car had been stolen from Edmonton, and the licence plate on it had been stolen from a different vehicle in Red Deer.
A 37-year-old individual and a 26-year-old individual, both residents of Red Deer, have been charged with numerous offences.
The 37-year-old individual's charges include the following:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking x3
- Possession of property obtained by crime x3
- Theft
- Flight from Peace Officer
- Fail to Comply with Release Order x5
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
The 26-year-old individual's charges include:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking x3
- Possession of property obtained by crime x3
- Theft
- Trafficking in property obtained by crime
- Fail to comply release condition
At the time of the arrests, both individuals were facing other criminal charges. Both have been remanded into custody following judicial interim release hearings.
