The Campbellton RCMP is asking for the public's help to identify a person of interest in connection with an investigation into a Grandparent Scam in the Campbellton area.

On August 23, 2024, police received a report that a man presented himself at a residence on Mountain Road, in Campbellton, asking for money.

The Grandparent Scam preys on the elderly population by manipulating their emotions and putting them in a position to react with a sense of urgency with the goal of extorting money from a potential victim without giving them the time to think.

Police are releasing surveillance footage photos in hopes that, despite the quality, someone may recognize him. The man is described as being in his late twenties to early thirties, approximately five feet eight inches (173 centimetres) tall, with a medium build and long black hair. At the time, he was wearing a dark coloured suit, a beige sweater, sunglasses and a white medical mask.

Anyone who may have information is asked to contact the Campbellton RCMP at 506-789-6000. To remain anonymous, information can be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by Secure Web Tip at www.crimenb.ca.
