On February 26, 2024, at approximately 5:40 pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a firearm having been discharged at a business located in the 1200 block of Saskatchewan Avenue, in Portage la Prairie.
Officers attended and learned that two male suspects entered the store and began arguing with a third male customer already inside.
The two male suspects then exited the store and one of them discharged a firearm into the door.
The suspects fled the scene on foot.
No injuries were reported.
Patrols were made in the area, but the suspects were not located.
At approximately 7:40 pm, officers from the Headingley RCMP Detachment received a report of a possible impaired driver located in the ditch, off of Provincial Road 248, in Elie.
Officers attended and located the vehicle now stuck in the snow along the rail line. Officers approached the vehicle and observed the male driver and lone occupant slumped over the steering wheel.
The driver was awakened and placed under arrest for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance. During a search, officers located numerous .22 calibre rounds of ammunition in his possession.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded sawed-off shotgun and the seizure of several cases of an alcoholic beverage.
The vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Winnipeg.
The investigation has uncovered that this 20-year-old male was one of the two suspects involved in the shooting at the store in Portage la Prairie as well as a shoplifting complaint in Langruth, where the alcoholic beverage was stolen from.
Tyrone Bone, 22, of Winnipeg, was remanded into custody.
Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
