On February 3, 2024, at approximately 8:20 pm, RCMP responded to an assault at Stride Place arena in Portage la Prairie.
It was reported that an altercation occurred between several youth and bear spray was used. There were no reported injuries, however a number of spectators had to leave the arena due to the contamination of the area.
When officers arrived two males were arrested but were later released with no charges.
Further investigation led officers to identify a suspect and he was arrested on February 5, 2024.
A 14-year-old male is facing charges of Assault with a Weapon, Administering Noxious Substance, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
He was released with an upcoming court date.
