On June 24, 2024, at approximately 9:20 pm, RCMP responded to an assault with a weapon outside a residence on Meighen Avenue, in Portage la Prairie.
It was reported the victim, a 65-year-old male, was loading up his truck, when the suspect armed with a crowbar, approached him and demanded his truck. The suspect struck the victim with the crowbar, stole the truck and fled.
The victim did not require medical attention.
As officers were en route, multiple calls were received with updates on the stolen truck. The male was driving erratically, and causing damage to a number of properties.
The stolen truck was located by officers a short distance away damaged and abandoned.
As officers were containing the area they received a call of a home invasion on Wilkinson Crescent. A male had broken into the home, threatened the homeowner and attempted to steal his vehicle. As police were arriving on scene the male was seen in the backyard of the residence and fled on foot. The male jumped into Crescent Lake and swam to the other side. An officer located the suspect hiding and he was arrested without incident.
Landan Beaulieu, 21, of Dakota Tipi First Nation, has been charged with:

Mischief x2
Uttering Threats
Resisting Arrest
Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Prohibited
Fail to Comply
He was remanded into custody.
