In June 2023, McLennan RCMP, assisted by Alberta's Integrated Child Exploitation Unit, both Central and Western Alberta District (WAD) General Investigation Sections (GIS) and WAD Crime Reduction Unit, responded to a report of sexual offences against a youth. The offences took place while the youth was attending a school in the High Prairie School Division.
On Feb. 7, 2024, a 31-year-old individual, a resident of Peace River, Alta., was charged with:
- Sexual assault;
- Sexual interference;
- Luring a child (x2);
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child; and
- Child exploitation.
The individual was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. His next court date is set for March 18, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
The individual has been employed by several school districts in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including the High Prairie School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Saskatoon Public School Division (2013 and 2015) and the Lloydminster Public School Division (2014). Parents or guardians who are concerned that that their child(ren) may have been involved in an incident related to this investigation are encouraged to contact their local police.
McLennan RCMP and WAD GIS are still actively investigating this incident.
