Maskwacis RCMP advise of heavy police presence

Maskwacis RCMP would like to thank everyone for their co-operation, the heavy police presence was ended in the very early morning hours of Oct. 19, 2024. On Oct. 18, 2024, shortly after 9:45 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP responded to a complaint of forcible confinement involving a firearm. Numerous RCMP resources were dispatched to the area. The female victim, who called 911, was located hiding in a treeline outside of a residence on the Louis Bull Townsite, Alta. Following an investigation, which involved the execution of a search warrant, two individuals were arrested.

A 47-year-old individual, a resident of the Louis Bull First Nation, was charged with:

• Forcible confinement

• Pointing a firearm

• Careless use of a firearm

• Uttering threats

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Multiple charges related to failing to comply with a release order

A 17-year-old male youth, also a resident of the Louis Bull First Nation, was charged:

• Forcible confinement

• Pointing a firearm

• Assault

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose

• Failing to comply with a youth release order

The 47-year-old individual was brought before a justice of the peace and, after a judicial interim hearing, was remanded into custody with a next court appearance scheduled for Oct. 21, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. Maskwacis RCMP are advising the public that there will be heavy police presence in the Louis Bull First Nations Townsite. For public and police safety, we ask that people avoid the area and refrain from posting photos of responding officers on social media. There is no risk to the public. An update will be sent when more information is available.
