As a result of ongoing investigations involving the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act, RCMP officers from the Manitoba North District CREST unit attended to God's Lake Narrows and Manto Sipi Cree Nation (Gods River) from February 20 to 22, 2024.
On February 20, officers conducted a winter road patrol and a checkstop on the winter road located at the junction of God's Lake Narrows and Gods River.
As a result of this checkstop, officers issued 9 tickets under the Highway Traffic Act and arrested a 47-year-old male, from Gods River, who was found in possession of a small quantity of cocaine and illicit pills. He was released for a future court date in Gods River.
On February 21, Manitoba North District CREST unit officers executed a search warrant under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act at a residence located in the community of Gods River.
As a result of the search, officers located a quantity of cocaine, illicit pills, numerous bottles of liquor, a quantity of cash and drug-trafficking related paraphernalia.
The estimated street value in Gods River of the items seized is approximately $15,000.00
A 37-year-old female, from Gods River, was released from police custody for a future court date in Gods River.
Manitoba RCMP continue to investigate and further arrest are anticipated with additional charges pending.
The Manitoba RCMP is committed to working with First Nation communities that have enacted by-laws to prohibit the sale and possession of alcohol and have asked to make enforcement a priority. These enforcement actions will continue as per the expressed wishes of community leadership.
