Fort Saskatchewan RCMP lay several charges following stolen property investigation

In October 2023, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP Traffic/Crime Reduction Unit (TCRU) located a stolen vehicle with a stolen firearm inside, on 48 Avenue in Bruderheim, Alta. Due to the increase of rural crime, an investigation was launched to determine the person(s) responsible. As a result of the lengthy investigation, on Feb. 22, 2024, Fort Saskatchewan RCMP TCRU arrested a resident of Lamont County on several charges.

A 34-year-old individual has been charged with:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Possession of stolen property under $5000
  • Possession of a firearm while unauthorized
  • Possession of a firearm knowing you are unauthorized
  • Careless use of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm obtained by crime

The individual was held by the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP for a judicial interim release hearing and was subsequently released from custody by a justice of the peace. The individual is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., on March 14, 2024.
