Fort Chipewyan RCMP investigating shots fired complaint – Update #2

Fort Chipewyan RCMP continue to investigation the incident at the Fort Chipewyan Airport on May 1, 2024. As previously updated on May 3, 2024, two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident.

A 19-year-old individual is facing charges including:

  • Uttering threats against a person
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Disguise with intent
  • Use an imitation firearm while committing an offence
  • Fail to comply with Release Order

The individual was remanded into custody, and is set to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice – Fort Chipewyan on May 6, 2024.

The other suspect arrested was released from police custody without charges.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP investigating shots fired complaint – Update

Fort Chipewyan RCMP, with assistance from Wood Buffalo RCMP Police Dog Services and Crime Reduction Unit, have arrested two suspects in connection to the incident at the Fort Chipewyan Airport on May 1, 2024. The two male suspects, who cannot be named until an Information is sworn, remain in police custody awaiting judicial interim release hearings.

Additionally, RCMP have arrested a male, unrelated to the Airport incident, at large on a release order. He had conditions not to be in the community of Fort Chipewyan. This male, who cannot be named until an information is sworn, remains in police custody awaiting a judicial interim hearing.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP would like to thank the community for their assistance and cooperation in locating these suspects.

Fort Chipewyan RCMP are currently investigation an incident near the Fort Chipewyan Airport. At approximately, 3:07 p.m., Police responded to reports of shots fired. There have been no reported injuries, victims or damage. The investigation is continuing and an update will be provided when more information is available.
