77-year-old man dies following hit and run involving pedestrian; 17-year-old youth arrested

A 77-year-old man from Balmoral in the Bois-Joli region of N.B., has died and a 17-year-old youth has been arrested following a hit and run collision in the community.

On February 8, 2024, at approximately 6:40 p.m., members of the Campbellton RCMP Detachment responded to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Des Pionniers Avenue in Bois-Joli. The victim, a 77-year-old man, had been struck by a vehicle which then fled, and died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Shortly after the incident, the driver of the vehicle turned themselves in to police and was arrested. They were later released from custody, and are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police are asking anyone that lives in the area and witnessed the collision, has security camera footage from the time of the incident, or has information regarding this incident to contact the Campbellton RCMP Detachment at 506-789-6000. The investigation is ongoing.
