A 52-year-old resident of Oromocto First Nation, has been arrested following an investigation into child luring.
On August 9, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP received a report of child luring in Oromocto First Nation.
Early in the investigation, police determined that a 52-year-old man had been in contact with a youth by means of telecommunications with the intent of committing sexual interference.
The same day, at approximately 7:15 p.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP were able to locate the 52-year-old man, who was with a youth under the age of 16. The 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene, and later released on strict conditions. He will appear in Fredericton Provincial Court at a later date.
Digital evidence was seized at the time of the arrest.
"We would like to thank our officers for their quick police work and locating the man in a timely manner," says Sgt. Stéphane Esculier of the Oromocto RCMP. "Parents are encouraged to talk to their children, be aware of the sites they visit, the apps they use, and the people they talk to. There are many resources available to help educate New Brunswickers on internet safety."
