40-year-old man sentenced in connection with homicide investigation

A 40-year-old man from Nash Creek, N.B., has been sentenced to eight years in prison in connection with the homicide of a 39-year-old man from Belledune.

On November 6, 2022, at approximately 10:35 a.m., members of the Chaleur Region RCMP attended a residence on Highway 134 in Nash Creek in connection with an unrelated matter. Upon arrival at the scene, the members approached a 39-year-old man, who advised that he had just shot someone. Police located the man deceased behind a shed on the property. The man was later identified as 39-year-old Scott Devereaux, from Belledune.

On November 7, 2022, Nathan Meade appeared in Campbellton Provincial Court and was charged with second-degree murder. He was remanded into custody.

On May 29, 2024, Nathan Meade plead guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter, and the second-degree murder charge was withdrawn. On July 8, 2024, he appeared in Campbellton Court of King's Bench, and was sentenced to eight years in prison, minus time already served.
