A 38-year-old man from Elsipogtog First Nation, N.B., has been charged in connection with a drug trafficking investigation in the Southeast region of the province.
The investigation began on July 25, 2024, following information obtained by police that a new and extremely dangerous drug containing carfentanil was now believed to be circulating in the area.
On July 26, members of the Richibucto, Shediac, Elsipogtog and Sackville RCMP Detachments executed a search warrant at a residence on Main Street, on Elsipogtog First Nation, in connection with the investigation. A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene.
On July 30, Arthur Joshua Simon appeared in Moncton Provincial Court, and was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamine
- Trafficking methamphetamine
- Trafficking fentanyl
- Obstruction of a peace officer
He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on August 6.
Members of the New Brunswick RCMP Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services, as well as the Southeast Community Crime Reduction Unit and the Miramichi Integrated Enforcement Unit also assisted with the investigation.
