A 30-year-old man from Carleton North, N.B., has been charged following a shooting incident in the community of East Brighton, N.B.
On July 21, 2024, at approximately 6:30 a.m., members of the Western Valley Region RCMP responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Brighton Cross Road in the community. When police arrived, they determined that a man attended the residence and fired several shots towards the house and the home owner. He then assaulted the home owner before fleeing the scene in a car.
Shortly after, police attended a residence in Peel and arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the incident.
Later the same day, members of the Western Valley Region RCMP executed a search warrant at a residence on Harmon Lane in Peel, in connection with the investigation. During the search, police seized a number of firearms.
On July 25, Ozzie Trecartin appeared in Woodstock Provincial Court, and was charged with:
- Discharging a firearm with intent
- Assault
- Assault with a weapon
- Uttering threats
- Possession of a firearm without a licence
- Unsafe storage of a firearm
- Obstruction of a peace officer
He was remanded into custody.
On July 30, Ozzie Trecartin returned to court, and was charged with attempted murder. He was released from custody on strict conditions pending a future court appearance.
The investigation is ongoing.
