A 17-year-old youth from Nasonworth, N.B., has been charged in connection with a homicide in the community.
On May 13, 2024, shortly after 11 a.m., members of the Oromocto RCMP detachment, along with RCMP Police Dog Services, responded to a report of an assault with a weapon at a residence on Nelson Drive in Nasonworth. When police arrived, they located a 34-year-old man outside of the residence who was suffering from significant injuries. The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
A short time later, a 17-year-old youth was located walking on Phillips Road, and was arrested without incident by responding members, in connection with the incident.
On May 14, the 17-year-old youth appeared in Fredericton Provincial Court, and was charged with second degree murder. He was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to return to court on May 23 for a bail hearing.
The New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, and treating the incident as a homicide.
The investigation is ongoing.
