15-year-old youth charged in connection with homicide investigation

A 15-year-old youth has been charged in connection with a homicide investigation led by the New Brunswick RCMP's Major Crime Unit in Moncton, N.B.

On February 5, 2024, at approximately 9:20 p.m., members of the Codiac Regional RCMP responded to a report of a shot fired inside a residence on Sands Drive. When police arrived at the scene, they located a 16-year-old youth inside of the residence who was suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to hospital with what were believed to be serious, life-threatening injuries.

The youth has since died in hospital as a result of his injuries.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident, and the youth's death is being investigated as a homicide.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., police arrested a 15-year-old youth in connection with the investigation, and he was taken into police custody.

On February 6, the 15-year-old youth appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with manslaughter. He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to return to court on February 7, 2024.
