Update: Additional charges laid against 37-year-old man in connection with sexual assault investigation

Update, March 14, 2024: On March 14, 2024, Stephen Blackwood was sentenced to 18 additional months of jail time on top of his remand time, as well as 15 years of probation with strict conditions upon his release.

Additional charges have been laid against a 37-year-old man from Moncton, N.B., in connection with an investigation into sexual assault and other offences in Moncton and surrounding areas.

In early November 2022, the Fredericton Police Force began an investigation into reports of a man videotaping children in the pool areas of various hotels in the city. Fredericton police later arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the investigation. He was subsequently charged, and later released on conditions.

On December 2, 2022 the 37-year-old man was arrested by members of the Codiac Regional RCMP for breaching the conditions of his release order.

On February 2, 2023, Stephen Blackwood appeared in Moncton Provincial Court and was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference in connection with an incident at a school in November 2022. He was remanded into custody.

Throughout the investigation, it was learned that the man had committed similar offences in the Moncton region and surrounding areas dating back to 2018.

In September 2023, Stephen Blackwood plead guilty to the charge of sexual interference relating to an incident November 2022.

On October 6, additional charges were laid against Stephen Blackwood in Moncton Provincial Court, including:

  • 31 counts of voyeurism
  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference


Stephen Blackwood remains in custody, and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
